Herold - the national past-time - 01 May
It is May 1st… Mayday a public holiday… and a
German soccer team is playing. As I sit here in my room blogging, I hear feet
approaching, male feet and then keys unlocking a door. Then all is quiet for a few
minutes. Soon I hear the mighty roar of a goal… and then a softer groan….
Herold - Schnitzel anyone??? 28 April
Sunday 28 April
As I walk into the
courtyard, even on this rather chilly day, there are people (guests) sitting at
the tables having dinner...and as I walk by the open kitchen door, I can smell
the schnitzel cooking. I am dying to go into the restaurant and order it for
dinner. But how much schnitzel can one person eat in a lifetime??? I suspect, I have had more than my share!!
Herold:…pony neck beer for one and all
it was Father's Day. The day when the men of the family get together with their male friends and hang out.
Driving along, up a hill, into a tiny village…. I see a group of men gathered near the corner where the regional bus stops. Apparently their car (an SUV) has broken down and two bikers have stopped to help. The men are older, comfortable, stocky grandfather types. The bikers are younger. As I drive by I notice that all of the older men are sitting on a bench… and each of them including the bikers has a pony-neck bottle of beer in his hand. As I drive by, they raise their beer bottles to me in salute… product placement at its best!! All I can do is laugh.
